Our hair is exposed every day to many damaging factors such as harsh sunlight, weather changes, stress and pollution, which makes our hair fragile, dull and damage prone. While there are countless products in the market, there’s nothing that’s better than natural ingredients. Try out these easy homemade hair masks, that are easy to whip up and are great for your hair.
1.
Banana and Olive Oil
Bananas
provide hydration and moisture to dull, damaged, dry hair. It has a high
content of vitamins and minerals (such as potassium) that can strengthen the
hair and balance scalp pH. Olive oil contains healthy fats and vitamin E, which
makes your hair look shiny and sleek. It also moisturizes the hair and heals
damage caused due to breakage and split ends.
Blend
or mash a banana to make a lump-free puree. Add one tablespoon of olive oil to
it and continue blending. This will make a creamy, frothy hair mask. While
you’re in the shower, apply the mask throughout the scalp and hair using your
fingers. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it off.
2.
Coconut Oil and Honey
Coconut
Oil provides moisture to the hair and softens it while preventing breakage
because of its richness in fatty acids. It can penetrate deeper into the hair
than a regular conditioner. This leaves your hair feeling soft, silky and
shiny. Honey is a natural humectant which infuses moisture in the hair, giving
it a well-needed boost of hydration. It is also an emollient that gives you
smoother hair while moisturizing your scalp to return the lost softness and
shine to your hair. Thus, making it a great homemade hair mask for frizzy hair.
Mix
coconut oil and honey in equal proportions in a bowl. You can determine the
amount based on your hair length and texture. Apply the mixture on your hair
from roots to tips fully coating your hair. If you have an oily scalp, apply it
from ears down. Leave it on for 20 mins. Rinse off with a shampoo and
conditioner.
3.
Aloe Vera Mask
Mix
5 tbsp of aloe vera gel with 2 tbsp of a silicone-less conditioner. Apply the
aloe vera mask to your hair and use a wide-toothed comb to comb it in
thoroughly. Leave it on your hair for 20 minutes before rinsing it off.
4.
Eggs and lemon
Eggs
are abundant in Vitamins A, D, and E, proteins and fatty acids. These help in
retaining the shine and lustre in your hair. As your hair mostly consists of
protein, this extra boost to the hair makes it healthy and restored. Lemon is
best for people with oily scalp, as lemon juice has the capability of absorbing
grease and excess oil in the scalp. Lemon is rich in Vitamin C, which lets you
have stronger hair, and its acidic nature will clean any deposited products and
dust from your hair.
Squeeze
half a lemon into a mixing bowl. Put in some egg white and mix it together
until you get a smooth consistency. Apply it to damp hair from roots to tips.
Tie your hair up and let this mask sit on your hair for 30-45 minutes before
rinsing it off with a shampoo and conditioner.
5.
Olive oil and coconut oil
This
is the best remedy for high gloss shine as both are natural emollients that
lock in hydration in the hair so that it can remain smooth, soft and shiny.
Combine
1/4 cup olive oil and 1 tablespoon coconut oil. Heat this for a few seconds
until it gets slightly warm. The warmth of the oil will open up the hair
cuticles to allow deeper penetration of the hair structure. Leave it on your
hair for 10 minutes before rinsing it off warm water.
The
above mentioned hair masks are a great temporary remedy to keep dry hair in
control.
